Daniel Gorjão

Biography

Daniel Gorjão studied Arts at High School and then attended the Acting Course at Modern University of Lisbon and finally at the National Conservatory (ESTC).

In 2003 he starts to work as an actor and a dancer with Filipe la Feria at his company. In 2010 he co-creates and directs ‘um dia dancei só dancei um dia’, that won the competition ‘Emergentes: New creators / New languages’ at the National Theatre in Lisbon ( co – production Teatro nacional D. Maria II / Festival de Teatro de Almada ). From that point on he starts to work as a director. He directed: Pessoa Revisited (Cine-Teatro S. Pedro, em Alcanena); Intervenção: Antes de Começar, de Almada Negreiros (para o projecto One Nigth Stand); não te concedi a ti, natureza, a decisão deste dia (Teatro Turim | Festival Inund’art – Girona); Sempre Noiva (Teatro de Almada | Teatro Taborda); Que o dia te seja limpo (Festival Materiais Diversos); Fragmento (em co-produção com Silly Season). He was an assistent director for Ana Luisa Guimarães in the National’s Theatre production of Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf?, in Lisbon. He’s one of the creators and the artistic director of Rosa 74 Theatre between 2010 and 2012. In 2012 he creates Teatro do Vão with Teresa Tavares and Sara Garrinhas where he’s the artistic director. He also works with Maria Joao Luis as a co-creator in Encontros do Devir, in Faro. In 2013, he’s the leading actor and an assistant director for Maria Joao Luis at ‘Ninguém se ouve, ninguém se vê’ for Teatro da Terra. In the same year, he directs ‘Que o dia te seja limpo’ for the festival Materiais Diversos and presents Fragmento in co-production with SillySeason. In 2014 he creates and performs ‘Beco da Saudade’ ( Teatro do Bairro ) and directs ‘O olhar inabitado das manhas’ ( Museu Nacional de História Natural e Ciência ). He’s also a Movement coach for ‘Duas Pessoas’ and ‘A Menina do Mar’, both directed by Maria Joao Luis. In 2014 he creates ‘Radiografia de um Nevoeiro Imperturbável’ (TNDMII / TM JB ). The show was nominated by Time Out Lisbon for Best theatre play of the year and Daniel was nominated as a creator for Fundação Gulbenkian’s awards ‘Novos’. In 2015 he directed ‘Desta Carne Lassa do Mundo’, a new drataturgy for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. (Musei Nacional de História Natural e Ciência) and, in 2016, he directed ´Perfeito Círculo Presente’, a play for RTP2 (Portuguese Radio Television). He’s an Actor’s Director at RTP2.
